Frequently Asked Questions – Countertops & Surfaces

Answers to common questions about quartz, porcelain, and natural stone surfaces — materials, care, ordering, delivery, installation, and pricing from SLABTEK.

Materials

What is the difference between quartz, granite, and marble countertops?

Quartz is an engineered surface made of natural quartz crystals bound with resin — it is non-porous, consistent in pattern, and requires no sealing. Granite is a natural stone prized for unique veining and excellent heat resistance, but it needs periodic sealing. Marble offers unmatched elegance yet is softer and more prone to etching and staining, making it better suited to low-traffic areas.

What are porcelain (ceramic) slabs and why choose them?

Porcelain slabs, like our Kedra, Materia, and Epic collections, are ultra-compact surfaces fired at extremely high temperatures. They are exceptionally resistant to heat, UV light, scratching, and staining, and can be used indoors and outdoors — including facades and cladding — thanks to their thin profile and durability.

Which material is best for kitchen countertops?

For most kitchens, quartz (such as QuartzForms) offers the best balance of durability, low maintenance, and design consistency. Porcelain is ideal if you want maximum heat resistance or a seamless look with matching cladding. Natural stone suits those who value one-of-a-kind patterns and don't mind routine sealing.

What thickness options are available?

Quartz slabs typically come in 12, 20, and 30 mm thicknesses. Porcelain slabs range from 6 mm (ideal for cladding and furniture) to 12 or 20 mm for countertops. Thicker slabs offer a more substantial edge profile, while thinner formats can be laminated or used for lightweight applications.

Care & Maintenance

Are quartz and porcelain countertops heat resistant?

Porcelain is highly heat resistant — hot pans can typically be placed directly on the surface. Quartz tolerates everyday warmth, but sudden extreme heat can damage the resin binder, so we recommend using trivets for hot cookware on quartz surfaces.

Will my countertop scratch or stain?

Quartz and porcelain are both highly scratch and stain resistant thanks to their non-porous structure. Everyday spills like coffee, wine, and oil wipe away easily. As with any surface, we recommend using cutting boards to protect both your knives and the countertop finish.

Do I need to seal my countertop?

No sealing is needed for quartz or porcelain — they are non-porous by design. Only natural stones like granite and marble require periodic sealing, typically once a year depending on use.

How do I clean my countertop day to day?

Simply use warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive scouring pads, bleach, and harsh solvents. For dried-on residue, a non-abrasive cleaner and a plastic scraper are usually sufficient.

Ordering & Delivery

How do I place an order?

Browse our collections online and add products to your cart, or contact us directly for slab selections and project quotes. Our team will confirm availability, pricing, and delivery details before finalizing your order.

What are the typical lead times?

In-stock slabs, sinks, adhesives, and tools are usually ready for delivery within a few business days. Special-order materials or large project quantities may take 4–8 weeks depending on the brand and shipping schedule. We will always confirm timing when you order.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes — we deliver across Lebanon. Slabs are transported on A-frames by trained crews to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. Delivery fees depend on location and order size.

What is your return policy?

Unused, uncut products in original condition can generally be returned within 14 days of delivery. Cut-to-size and fabricated materials are made specifically for your project and cannot be returned. Contact us with your order details and we'll guide you through the process.

Installation

How is a countertop measured and templated?

After you select your material, a precise template of your kitchen or vanity is created — either with physical templates or digital laser measuring. This captures exact dimensions, sink and cooktop cutouts, and wall irregularities so your countertop fits perfectly.

What edge profiles can I choose from?

Common options include straight (eased), beveled, bullnose, and mitred edges. Mitred edges are popular for creating the look of a thicker slab. Your fabricator can advise which profiles suit your chosen material and design style.

Can I install a countertop myself?

We strongly recommend professional fabrication and installation. Large-format slabs are heavy and fragile before installation, and cutouts for sinks and cooktops require specialized tooling. We supply professional adhesives and handling tools like GRABO vacuum lifters for qualified installers.

Pricing

How much does a countertop cost?

Pricing depends on the material, brand, thickness, edge profile, and complexity of the fabrication. Quartz and porcelain are generally comparable in price, with premium finishes and larger formats at the higher end. Contact us with your project dimensions for an accurate quote.

Does the price include fabrication and installation?

Slab prices cover the material itself. Fabrication (cutting, edging, cutouts) and installation are quoted separately based on your project's requirements. We're happy to prepare a complete estimate covering material, fabrication, and delivery.
