The Complete Care Guide for Quartz and Porcelain Surfaces

Care & Maintenance · 2026-06-08 · 4 min read

Both quartz and porcelain are famously low-maintenance — but 'low' is not 'zero'. Daily cleaning, stain response, and the few things to never do.

One of the main reasons clients choose engineered quartz and sintered porcelain over natural marble is maintenance — or the near-absence of it. Neither material needs sealing, and neither harbors bacteria in pores the way natural stone can. But a small amount of informed care keeps a surface looking factory-new for decades. Here is the routine we recommend for every Quartzforms, Epic, Kedra, and Materia surface we install.

Daily and Weekly Cleaning

Daily care is simple: warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Wipe spills as they happen — not because the surface will stain quickly, but because dried coffee, wine, or turmeric takes more effort later. For weekly deeper cleaning, a pH-neutral surface cleaner is ideal. Rinse and dry with a microfiber cloth to avoid water spots, especially on darker satin finishes like Kedra's Black Boreal.

Stubborn Marks and Stains

For dried-on food or grease, use a plastic (never metal) scraper, then clean as usual. For persistent marks on quartz, a small amount of cream cleaner without bleach works well. Porcelain tolerates stronger cleaning: even acetone or diluted degreasers are safe on Kedra, because the fired surface has nothing for chemicals to attack.

The Short List of Nevers

Never place hot pans directly on quartz — always use a trivet; porcelain is the exception and takes direct heat. Never use bleach, oven cleaner, or strong alkaline products on quartz, as they can dull the resin. Never cut directly on a polished surface; it won't destroy the countertop, but it will destroy your knives and can leave metal marks. And never let a limescale ring sit for months around the faucet — a little care descaler dissolves it in minutes.

Follow this routine and your surface will look as good on its tenth anniversary as on installation day. If a surface ever needs professional attention — a chip repair, a re-polish, a new cutout for an appliance upgrade — our fabrication team in Zouk Mosbeh handles that too.
